Applying for Italian citizenship

Since 4 December 2018 all those who apply for Italian citizenship, whether they are married to an Italian or are a resident in Italy, must prove an adequate knowledge of the Italian language – at a level of no lower than B1 Cittadinanza of the Common Reference Framework for the knowledge of languages.

CILS is a certificate issued by the CILS Centre of the Università per Stranieri di Siena recognised by the Italian State that measures the level of linguistic – communicative knowledge of the Italian.

The new CILS B1 Cittadinanza exam is a reduced version of the CILS B1 Standard exam. It consists of 4 papers instead of 5 – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

As an officially approved examination centre for the CILS examination, we also offer preparatory courses designed to consolidate knowledge and boost confidence, practising and improving examination techniques.
